馬林魚隊今天正式宣布，跟42歲日籍外野手鈴木一朗行使下季的選擇權，年薪200萬美元，契約延長的權利歸球團所有，馬林魚隊球團總經理Michael Hill表示，還跟一朗簽下新的合約，包括2018年的選擇權。

總教練Don Mattingly的構想中，一朗在外野是活棋，不但三個位置都可守，守備、速度都能維持一定水準，能交付代打任務的選手，也不是這樣容易。

雖然一朗對球隊而言是「第4位」外野手，不過他也在本季超越4256支安打的舊紀錄，加上8月突破3000安大關，打擊率2成91，是2011年之後最佳成績。

44歲的一朗還有可能跟球隊簽約，不過對一朗而言，打到50歲真的是他的目標，他也正在朝這方向邁進。

一朗是馬林魚隊精神領袖，也曾公開說過想要打到50歲，這也是馬林魚隊支持他的理由，希望他繼續留下來效力。
